Galvanised protection and inspection

The galvanised finish provides a protective coating to help resist rust and corrosion during outdoor, marine and coastal use. Saltwater, abrasion, moisture and contact with dissimilar metals can gradually affect the protective coating, so regular inspection is essential, particularly in severe marine environments.

Before use, check that the shackle markings are legible and that the body and pin are the same size, type and manufacture. Check the body, pin, threads, safety bolt and cotter pin for wear, damage, distortion, cracks, gouges or corrosion. Do not use the shackle if the cotter pin is missing or if the shackle has been modified, welded, heated, bent or otherwise altered.
